Peugeot moves upmarket as 508 proves popular

Bolstered by the success of its new 508 saloon and estate, Peugeot experienced a 40% growth in sales of its premium models during 2011. In what was overall a year of flat sales performance, 2,114,000 unit sales compared to the 2010 figure of 2,142,000, the French carmaker succeeded in its plan to move upmarket. Peugeot lines up bumper range of frugal engines for new 208

French carmaker Peugeot has revealed the engine line-up of its forthcoming new supermini, the 208. Set to arrive in the UK in June, the 208 will be available with a choice of five diesel models and five petrol models, with CO2 emissions starting from just 87g/km for the diesels and 99g/km for the petrols. Peugeot has got into trouble over a ‘misleading’ TV advert for a personal car leasing deal. The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has banned the ‘Just Add Fuel’ advert in its current form, which featured a deal on the 207, after a viewer complained that the advert did not make it clear that a substantial upfront payment needed to acquire the car.
